Parr could have been awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal in 1858 or 59, if he was counted as one of “the troops engaged against the mutineers”. However, if he was not in this category, his medal would have had to be claimed by his wife, as it was not until 1868 that the Medal was awarded to “all persons who had borne arms or had been under fire”.
