Note | He qualified as a surgeon and joined The Honourable East India Company (as did several of his brothers), possibly in 1832. 1839 Assistant Surgeon 15th Reg Native Infantry 1840 married to Annie POTTINGER, second daughter of Thomas POTTINGER, Rathbridge House, Kildare 1841 a son is born at Deesa 20th Sept Annie dies (aged 21) 1843 marries Eliza WOOLMER, daughter of Ed.WOOLMER, in Exeter. Returns to India 1844 or 45 a daughter, Katherina Eliza Woolmer, born in Ahmedneggar 1847 Surgeon a son, James Rose, born 1851 both children living in Exeter, in the care of the Misses Parkin 1855 “1st Lt Cav” 1857-58 served during Mutiny as Field Surgeon 1860 promoted “SM” 1861 James Rose at Rugby School 1862 rank of “DIG” (? Inspector General of Hospitals) 1866 Retires 1867 dies of “Bronchitis, diseased liver” at Castleton, Sherborne. Buried Castleton Church Parr could have been awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal in 1858 or 59, if he was counted as one of “the troops engaged against the mutineers”. However, if he was not in this category, his medal would have had to be claimed by his wife, as it was not until 1868 that the Medal was awarded to “all persons who had borne arms or had been under fire”. |
